Supreme Court gives interim order in PIA privatisation case

ISLAMABAD – Supreme Court has barred the government from proceeding withprivatisation of the Pakistan International Airlines without itspermission, Radio Pakistan has reported.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice SaqibNisar was hearing the suo motu case in Islamabad today regarding thenational flag carrier’s reported privatisation.

In response to a question, the attorney general Ashtar Ausaf Ali told thecourt that at present the government has no plans to privatise the nationalairline.

The AG also clarified that PIA has not sold its share of air routes toother airlines.

The hearing was then adjourned for two weeks.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan will also announce the judgment of casesinvolving interpretation or determination of the question of temporary orpermanent bar to contest elections tomorrow.

The Court had reserved its verdict on 14th of February this year.
