GHAZNI CITY – Thirteen security forces, including a district chief havebeen killed while ten wounded in a coordinated attack by Talibanlink> in southern Ghazni province, officialssaid on Thursday.
The Khwaja Omari district’s administrative head was killed in a predawnassault by the militants. Provincial council member said the district hadfallen to Taliban, but police rejected the claim.
Deputy Police Chief Ramazan Ali told Pajhwok Afghan News that five NDSlink> personnel, eight policemen were killed and10 others wounded during the overnight assault.
Around 45 insurgents were also killed and several others wounded, he said,adding: “Taliban have set alight the district office complex, butreinforcement arrived at the district and currently the situation undercontrol.”
A resident of the area, Hassan Ali, said many security forces sufferedcasualties in the overnight attack.
On the other hand, a public representative, Naseer Ahmad Faqiri, claimedthat district chief, Samsor Rahman, an NDSlink> officialand many security personnel lost their lives to the coordinated attack.
According to Faqiri, the Taliban have set alight the district officecomplex and taken away all weapons, ammunition and vehicles.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the rebels overranKhwaja Omari and killed several security officials, including the districtchief. Only three rebels were killed and four others wounded, he added.
