WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump told his French counterpart EmmanuelMacron Tuesday morning he plans to announce later in the day he was pullingthe United States out of the Iran nuclear deal, The New York Times hasreported citing an official briefed on the conversation.
But the French presidency said Trump did not give any indication on Irandecision in phone call with Macron. Trump is scheduled to make anannouncement later.
President Trump now plans to reimpose all the sanctions that were removedafter the signing of the 2015 deal, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction (JCPOA), in exchange for Iran agreeing to freeze its nuclear weaponsprogramme.
Trump’s decision followed failure of talks over the president’s insistencethat definite limits be placed on Iran’s nuclear weapons programme goingbeyond 2030, which has been his key grouse against a deal that he hascalled a “disaster” and the “worst ideal ever”.
