ISLAMABAD – Glorifying the 18th century Mysore ruler, Pakistan on Fridaypraised Tipu Sultan on his death anniversary and said that since he wastrained in the art of warfare and had a fascination for learning.
Tipu was a ruler of the erstwhile kingdom of Mysore, and is considered bysome historians to be an implacable enemy of the British East IndiaCompany. He was killed in May 1799 while defending his fort ofSrirangapatna against the British forces.
“Revisiting an important and influential historical figure, Tiger of Mysore- Tipu Sultan on his death anniversary. Right from his early years, he wastrained in the art of warfare and had a fascination for learning,” Twittedthe official hand of the government of Pakistan.
Calling Tipu Sultan a ‘Tiger of Mysore’, Pakistan also tweeted aposter describing him as mentioned below.
“Tipu Sultan (20 November 1750 – 4 May 1799) He was a ruler of the Kingdomof Mysore and the eldest son of Sultan Hyder Ali of Mysore”

Last year, President Ram Nath Kovind had hailed Tipu Sultan, saying he dieda heroic death fighting the British, remarks that came in the backdrop ofprotests by the BJP in Karnataka against his glorification.
There had been a hue and cry over Tipu Sultan’s celebration last year.
Last year, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah had hit out at BJP chief Amit Shah forattacking his government for celebrating ‘Tipu Jayanti’.
“We celebrate birthdays of 26 leaders & builders of #NavaKarnataka.@AmitShah in a desperate attempt to communalise, picks on Tipu Jayanthi,”Siddaramaiah said in a tweet.
“Election is coming! It brings tourists like @AmitShah who displayignorance about our state & call #KannadaRajyotsava as ‘KarnatakMahotsav’,” he claimed.
