ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Regulatory Authority (Pemra) onWednesday issued show cause notices and an advice to three news channels.
A show cause notice has been issued to a channel for maligning thecredibility and passing derogatory remarks against the judiciary in itsprogramme “Do Rai” aired on 21-04-2018, says a Pemra statement.
Similarly, another show cause notice has been issued to a channel forairing foul language and abusive comments in its programme “Point of Viewwith Dr Danish”, wherein, one of the participants Faisal Vawda used abusiveand derogatory words against one of the participants of the programme.
Pemra has directed both the channels to reply in writing as well as appearfor personal hearing by May 2, 2018. In case of failure in submitting replywithin stipulated time and non-appearance for personal hearing, theAuthority shall have the right to initiate ex-parte proceedings against thechannels.
Moreover, an advice has been also issued to a channel to refrain fromairing anti-judiciary content as violation in this regard has been observedduring programme titled “DNA” on 18-04-2018 wherein anti-judiciary sloganschanted by the mob were aired.
