ISLAMABAD: Former President Asif Zardari lands into hot waters as he hasbeen served notice by the apex court over the infamous NRO case.
The Supreme Court issued on Tuesday notices to former president General(retd) Pervez Musharraf, former president Asif Ali Zardari, formerattorney-general Justice (retd) Malik Qayyum and the NationalAccountability Bureau.
The orders were given by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice ofPakistan Justice Saqib Nisar while hearing a petition by Feroze Shah Gilaniregarding the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
The NRO, passed by Musharraf in 2007, granted amnesty to politicians andother individuals by quashing various corruption and criminal cases againstthem.
The petitioner pleaded before the bench that the NRO caused a loss ofbillions of rupees and that those who made the law must return the amountincurred in losses due to it.
During the hearing, the chief justice inquired from the petitioner as tothe purpose of the petition, observing that the Supreme Court has alreadydeclared the NRO null and void.
