ISLAMABAD: The United States has sought Islamabad’s help in tracingthreats to US President Donald Trump originating from Pakistan, the FederalInvestigation Agency (FIA) informed the National Assembly StandingCommittee on Government Assurances on Monday, regretting that it was hardto track down people who posted blasphemous material on social media, Dawnhas reported.
FIA Cyber Crimes director retired Capt Muhammad Shoaib told the lawmakersthat it was hard to identify the culprits behind the posts depictingPakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan as Lord Shiva, and thealleged threats made to President Trump.
He said the US authorities had last week contacted the FIA with a complaintthat someone had threatened Mr Trump and sought help to identify the personwho had sent the message. However, he said that they had been unable toidentify the suspect so far.
US authorities had been advised to contact the FIA through diplomaticchannels — Foreign Office. “We will start investigation after getting arequest through diplomatic channels, and after identifying the person whothreatened Mr Trump, we will provide information through the same channel,”he said.
