Several Afghanistan provinces may fall to Taliban: Report

KABUL – Some members of the Wolesi Jirga, the Lower House of Parliament,said the security situation is deteriorating and that provinces will fallto the Taliban if government remains reluctant to pay attention to thesafety of vulnerable areas.

The MPs decided to summon security officials over insecurity next Wednesday.

“They (security heads) are driving the country towards a crisis. Mr AshrafGhani is being wrongly briefed by either the defense minister or interiorminister on security of provinces,” said Allah Gul Mujahid, an MP.

“Our youth are martyred every day and women become widows. Afghanistan’speople should take this seriously,” said Shakiba Hashemi, an MP.

“In 10 districts of Faryab, only police headquarters and centers ofdistricts are under government’s control,” said Rangina Kargar, an MP.

Ministry of Defense meanwhile said insurgents are being suppressed bygovernment forces’ operations in different parts of the country.

“We had many problems in Faryab but now the problems have been removed andat least 50 members of the enemy have been eliminated there,” MohammadRadmanish, the Defense Ministry’s spokesman told TOLOnews.
