KARACHI – Pakistan’s hockey legend Mansoor Ahmed passed away in Karachi onSaturday.The 49-year-old was suffering from complications stemming from a pacemakerand stents implanted in his heart.

Mansoor has been a sporting icon in Pakistan since helping the country winthe 1994 World Cup in Sydney with his penalty stroke push against theNetherlands in the final.

Mansoor played 338 international matches, participated in three Olympicsand various other high-profile events in a career spanning from 1986 to2000.

Last month he reached out to India for help in securing a heart transplant.
