ECP cancels all transfers and postings since May 31

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday cancelledall postings and transfers made after May 31 in a bid to conduct the 2018general elections fairly.

The commission reasoned that the section 5(4) of the elections act forbidsgovernment as well as the caretaker setup of making transfers and postingswithout the prior approval of the ECP after the issuance of electionprogramme.

In a notification, the ECP said, “The postings/transfers, which were madeafter issuance of election programme i.e. May 31, 2018, stand cancelledab-initio.”

ECP notification dated June 4, 2018.

“[A] compliance report [should] be submitted,” it adds.

The ECP has asked the caretaker government to send proposals of postingsand transfers “if so required expedient in public interest, ofofficers/officials for consideration of the Election Commission.”

Meanwhile, the ECP has started nomination papers for the 2018 electionsafter the Supreme Court suspended Lahore High Court’s order pertaining tothe revision in the parliament-made nomination papers.
