Indian Military Officer killed at the LoC in retaliatory fire from Pakistan

JAMMU: Two BSF personnel, including an officer, were today killed asPakistani Rangers targeted Indian posts in retaliation along the IB herewith mortars and firing, nearly a week after DGMOs of both countries agreedto implement the ceasefire pact of 2003 in “letter and spirit”.

The heavy firing and mortar shelling from across the border in Pragwal areaof Akhnoor link> and nearby Kanachakand Khour sectors also left 10 persons injured.

Pakistan side responded to Indian unprovoked firing by targeting forwardduty points at International Borderlink> (IB) in Pragwalaround 0115 hours, causing critical injuries to Assistant Sub-inspector S NYadav (48) and constable V K Pandey,” a senior BSF officer told PTI.

He said both the injured were evacuated to medical facilities but succumbedto injuries.

The firing from across the border in violation of the ceasefire agreementprompted a strong and effective retaliation by the BSF, the officer saidadding cross-border firing spread to Kanachak and Khour areas as well andwas going on when last reports came in.

Earlier 19 people were injured in the Indian ceasefire violation.

On May 29, the DGMOs of India link> andPakistan agreed to “fully implement” the ceasefire pact of 2003 in “letterand spirit” forthwith to stop border skirmishes in J&K.
