NEW DELHI – The Indian crime branch on Sunday arrested a 54-year-old manfrom Uttar Pradesh in connection with the rape and cheating case registeredby a veteran Bollywood actress against an Andheri-based businessman.
The man, identified as Quari Gauhsulvara Hasmat Ali Ansari, an Arabicteacher, is the third accused arrested in the case which was filed afterthe actress approached the Juhu police in March this year. Ansari, aresident of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh had allegedly helped the businessmanmake fake papers to prove the complainant and the businessman were married.
The complainant had alleged that he had taken ₹15.40 crore from her,including gold ornaments on the pretext of giving her four flats, between2011 and 2015. On January 10 this year, the complainant had filed the firstcase of stalking against the businessman and he was arrested by the Juhupolice and later released on bail.
The case was subsequently transferred to the unit 9 of the Mumbai crimebranch for further investigation. The police found that the businessmanmade fake papers of their nikah (marriage certificate) with Ansari’s help.
The victim alleged in her complaint that the businessman threatened herwith dire consequences if she spoke out against him about cheating, said anofficer. During inquiry, the police seized two Mercedes and severaldocuments including the marriage certificate and debit cards from thebusinessman’s residence. “We have recorded the witnesses’ statement and themarriage was conducted in front of them.
Ansari signed the marriage certificate on the businessman’s instructions.During inquiry, police found two certificates issued on the same date butshowing the wedding took place at two different locations,” said a crimebranch official.
