KABUL – Militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria(ISIS) terrorist group suffered heavy casualties during the US drone strikein eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, Khaama Press has reported.
The provincial government media office in a statement said at least elevenmilitants affiliated with the terrorist group were killed during the dronestrike conducted in Ghulam Dak area of Chaparhar district.
The statement further added that the airstrike also left two ISIS militantswounded and three vehicles were destroyed.
In the meantime, the provincial government said at least two heroin labsbelonging to the militants were destroyed in a separate airstrike conductedby the Afghan Air Force.
The airstrike was carried out in Mamli area of Khogyani district, thestatement said, adding that the Afghan forces have also launched operationsin Bati Kot district and several areas have been cleared of the militantsso far.
The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban and ISISmilitants have not commented regarding the reports so far.
Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in East of Afghanistan butthe Taliban and ISIS militants have been attempting to expand theiractivities in some remote districts of the province during the recent years.
