Pervaiz Musharraf responds to former DG ISI comments

DUBAI – Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf rejected former ISIchief Muhammad Asad Durrani’s views that Kulbhushan Jadhav could have beenreturned to India at the right price. When asked about Durrani’s comments —which came after the recent launch of his book co-authored by formerResearch and Analysis Wing chief AS Dulat — Musharraf laughed it offsaying, “I don’t know who this person is.”Hinting at Durrani’s possiblepolitical connection, the former Pakistan Army chief said, “At this moment, there is certainly a turmoil in Pakistan… I don’t know which party hebelongs to.”

In April 2017, Jadhav was sentenced to death in Pakistan on charges ofespionage and terrorism. India then challenged the verdict in theInternational Court of Justice (ICJ), claiming due procedures were notfollowed in the trial. The ICJ has stayed the execution.

Reacting to former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s comments hintinghis country’s role in the 26\\11 Mumbai attack, Musharraf said his commentscannot be taken on merit. “That is not a fact at all.”

He added that two slaps were all that could have taken to make Ajmal Kasab, the Pak terrorist who was nabbed from Mumbai during the attack, admit toanything. “Are you for a moment agreeing with Kulbhushan Jadhav who issaying… admitting… that he is your agent… sabotaging Pakistan…You arenot accepting it, is it (sic)?”

Sharif had recently said that Pakistan should not allow non-state actors tocarry out such attacks.

Musharraf said the Pakistan government and Army cannot be blamed for theactions of a group or an organisation.
