Tax Amnesty Scheme extended in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Interim federal government on Saturday forwarded a summary toPresident Mamnoon Hussain aimed at seeking extension in Tax Amnesty Schemeby 31 to 50 days.

Sources say the decision has been taken to encourage more filers asapplicants declaring their assets rose exorbitantly in last week of scheme.The expiry date of the scheme was today i-e June 30, which according to lawis not extendable.

As per details, nearly 5000 people filed returns declaring their foreignassets whereas they also deposited Rs80 bn in terms of taxes in nationalexchequer.

Tax Amnesty Scheme proved to be a success; it can be called a landmark ofPML-N’s government which it initiated at the last moment of its period.According to Dunya News sources, till this time, the government has gainedmore than Rs100 billion. This scheme indeed encouraged many to become thepart of tax net and assisted the government in increasing revenue. June 30,today, was the last date and keeping in view the amount collected, it canbe called a prolific project.
