*ISLAMABAD: Contrary to the former premier Nawaz Sharif’s argument that hewas disqualified for not receiving a salary from his son’s Dubai-basedcompany, his lawyer admitted before an accountability court on Friday thatthe PML-N supreme leader got salary from Capital FZE. *
Judge Muhammad Bashir presided over the trial proceedings as Khawaja Haris,Mr. Sharif’s lead counsel, continued his final arguments in the Avenfieldproperties case on the fourth day.
The former premier and his daughter Maryam Nawaz didn’t appear as they arein London owing to the illness of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
Advocate Haris contended that Mr. Sharif is neither a beneficial owner ofthe London flats, nor has anything to do with them. The prosecution had toprove their ownership, he added.
Moreover, he said, his client has also nothing to do with any transactionswhich took place between his father Mian Sharif and elder son Hussain Nawaz.
The documents the anti-graft watchdog placed on record to back its case updidn’t have any mention of Mr. Sharif, he argued.
Haris acknowledged that the former premier received a salary from CapitalFZE, which dates back to 2008 and asked even if he received the salary whatit has to do with the case at hand.
