ISLAMABAD – Pakistan welcomed Tuesday historic meeting between the leadersof the United States of America and the Democratic Peoples Republic ofKorea and expressed hope that it would lead to lasting peace and stabilityin the region, the Foreign Office spokesman said.
“Pakistan has consistently supported all efforts towards the peacefulsettlement of the issues in the Korean peninsula,” Spokesman of ForeignOffice Dr. Mohammad Faisal, said in a tweet.
The spokesman was commenting on the first ever summit in Singapore betweenPresident Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un of DPRK, in which the twoleaders inked an agreement aimed at complete denuclearization of the Koreanpeninsula and reducing tensions.
The agreement said the two countries would co-operate towards “newrelations” while the US would provide “security guarantees” to NorthKorea.–APP
