LAHORE: Shamim Begum, mother of former prime minister and Pakistan MuslimLeague-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, on Thursday came forward insupport of her son.
In her video message released on Thursday, she said that she would go tojail with her son and PML-N head Nawaz Sharif.
She said that her son, who eliminated loadshedding from the country, wasreturning to Pakistan to see her, adding that she believe the former PM,her granddaughter and son-in-law were innocent.
Sharif’s 85-year-old mother also announced to personally receive her elderson at Lahore International airport only to make sure law enforcementagencies do not arrest him.
“Take me to airport to receive Nawaz. I will see who dares arrest my son,”Sharif’s aging mother said. However, her younger son, Shehbaz Sharif,former Chief Minister of Punjab province in Pakistan, didn’t agree with theidea.
Pakistan is to hold general elections on July 25 and Sharif’s politicalparty is facing numerous campaign challenges. Under these circumstances,Sharif’s announcement has excited workers of his party across country.
On the other hand, some surveys suggest that Sharif’s PML-N is doing greatin the run up to the elections. A survey by an independent consultantnamely Gallup Pakistan put PML-N on top with 26 percent as compared toImran Khan’s PTI with 25 percent. “PML-N will definitely gain followingSharif’s return who is undoubtedly country’s most popular and seniorpolitician.”
Meanwhile, the plan to arrest former prime minister and Pakistan MuslimLeague-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz hadbeen finalized.
As many as 22 officials of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and 100Elite Commandos will be deputed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.
