Supreme Court announces verdict in Saad Rafique constituency rigging case

ISLAMABAD – Supreme Court on Thursday announced verdict in the rigging case[from NA-125 constituency] which involved Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique.

The rigging case is related to alleged rigging in NA-125 constituencyduring the 2013 general election.

The two-member bench of the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry acceptedRafique’s appeal and annulled the decision by an election tribunal whichhad declared poll results in NA-125 null and void and ordered by-electionin the constituency.

Earlier, in 2013, Saad Rafique had defeated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)candidate Hamid Khan in NA-125 during the general elections. Afterwards,PTI’s Hamid Khan had then filed an application in the election tribunalleveling allegations of rigging against Saad Rafique.

Then the tribunal had ordered by-election in NA-125 and disqualifiedRafique from contesting in the constituency.

Following the tribunal’s verdict Rafique had approached the Supreme Courtto appeal against the decision.
