KARACHI: Contrary to the wish of former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharifand his daughter Maryum Safdar, President Pakistan Muslim League has ruledout any chances of aggressive protests against the Accountability Courtdecision, which means Nawaz’s party will not resist his highly likelyarrest upon his return.
Speaking to journalists in London, Nawaz Sharif said he will return toPakistan within ten days. Maryum Safdar, however, on Saturday announcedthat she will arrive back in Pakistan on coming Friday.
“Nawaz Sharif wishes a charged protest against the accountability courtjudgment and he wants us to resist his likely arrest,” a senior PMLNleader added; “The party has, however, decided to not protest.”
Offering the reasons of keeping it calm as have been discussed in closemeetings over the last 20 hours, the PMLN leader said Shehbaz Sharif andothers fear that burning of tires or violent protests may make it an excusefor the countrywide crackdown against the party’s candidates, leaders andworkers.
“In such situation we will be left nowhere to contest elections, which is achance to prove the judgments against PMLN leadership as wrong,” the PMLNleader further said.
Meanwhile, addressing a news conference here at Karachi Press Club, centralinformation secretary senator Mushahidullah Khan said his party will notboycott the elections.
“The accountability court’s judgment is a clean chit to Mian Nawaz Sharifin corruption allegations,” Khan said, adding that Nawaz Sharif and MayrumNawaz sentenced and it was pre-decided for them but the judgment is victoryfor the party.
“Mian Nawaz Sharif will come back to Pakistan within a week,” MushahidullahKhan.
“Who has killed Saleem Shehzad, who has placed curbs on media?”,Mushahidullah Khan alleged in a counter question when asked as what wasMohkama e Zaraat ( agriculture department).
The PMLN spokesman also lashed out at Imran Khan and said Imran had beenbusy with women all his life and was currently obeying the orders of PinkiPeerni. He also criticized Asif Ali Zardari and said his case should not beequated with Nawaz Sharif who has given sacrifices for democracy. Zardarihad not role in politics and even the Benazir didn’t allow him to presentwhen Meesaq-e-Jamhooriat was signed in London.
Khan said no meeting between Nawaz Sharif and Zardari has taken place inLondon.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-N leader and former first daughter MaryamNawaz said that she will return to Pakistan on Friday.
Former first daughter Maryam Nawaz was speaking to media in London, a dayafter the accountability court’s verdict, which imposed a 11-yearpunishment against her father and sentenced her to eight years in prison inthe Avenfield properties reference.
“It’s written in the decision that Nawaz Sharif is not involved incorruption,” she said. “My father has been acquitted from money launderingcharges.”
