Nawaz Sharif’s political asylum in London: Foreign Office responds to reports

ISLAMABAD – Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said onThursday that no information has been received about former prime ministerNawaz Sharif’s political asylum in London.

Speaking at a weekly briefing, the FO spokesperson said that Pakistan iscommitted to peace and security in Afghanistan and fully supports theAfghan president’s peace initiatives.

He said that there is no military solution to decades’ long Afghan conflictand Pakistan hopes that Taliban would grab opportunity of unconditionalpeace talks with Afghan government.

Dr Faisal said that United States Principal Deputy Assistant SecretaryAmbassador Alice G Wells had a useful visit to Pakistan from first to thirdof this month in which detailed discussions and meetings were held withhigh ups of the country.

During a meeting at Foreign Office, the two sides discussed the bilateralforeign relations as well as regional situation especially in Afghanistan.The FO spokesperson also said Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its formsand manifestations.

Turning to Pak-Russia ties, he said that relations between both thecountries are advancing in various fields, including security and defence.
