*PESHAWAR – NAB has initiated inquiries against three departments of theprevious PTI-led government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.*
NAB chairperson Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal presided over the board meetingof the corruption watchdog’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chapter on Monday.KP’s local government department came under fire for the delay incompleting the Peshawar Metro Bus project.
“Why was the project not completed in time?” asked the NAB chief. He saidthe cost of the project rose from Rs49 billion to Rs64 billion. However,the project was still never completed, he said. He ordered an inquiry intowhy the project got delayed. According to hi, the investigation has to fixresponsibility for increasing the project cost as well.
The corruption watchdog also approved initiating an inquiry against thelocal government department for embezzlement. NAB has received complaintsthat local government officials were involved in embezzlement of funds thatthe government allocated for schools’ biometric machines and water coolers.
NAB has learnt that officials of the police department were involved inembezzling funds allocated for the purchase of jail uniforms and weapons.The board approved initiating an inquiry.
The corruption watchdog also initiated an inquiry into the Khyber TeachingHospital Peshawar’s appointments of Board of Governors and medicaldirector. It also approved initiating an inquiry against Mohmand Agency’ssurgeon for corruption involving the salaries of a community healthcentre’s employees.
