*ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court has formed a two-member bench to hearformer prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz andson-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar’s appeals against their convictions in theAvenfield case.*
The bench comprises Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mian Gul HasanAurangzaib.
The Supreme Court disqualified in 2017 then PM Nawaz in the Panama Paperscase. The court ordered NAB to file three corruption references againstNawaz and his family.
An anti-corruption court has sentenced the family in one of the threereferences – Avenfield. The former PM was awarded 10 years in jail and hisdaughter, Maryam, was awarded seven. Maryam’s husband, Capt (retd) Safdarwas also handed a one-year sentence in the case. All three are currently injail. They have appealed the decision.
Nawaz and Maryam were arrested upon their return to the country on July 13.
