*NEW DELHI – Former three-time prime minister of India Atal BihariVajpayee has been put on a life support system after his conditiondeteriorated, the Indian media quoted hospital team as saying.*

Mr Vajpayee, a three-time Prime Minister, was admitted to the premierhospital with kidney tract infection and chest congestion.

Prime Mnister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah rushed to the bedsideof Vajpayee, who is admitted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciencesin Delhi.

The 93-year-old — who retired from public life after his health turnedfrail — has been under the supervision of doctors at AIIMS.

Doctors from various departments, including nephrology, gastroenterologyand cardiology are also on the team taking care of the former PrimeMinister, reports the TOI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mr Vajpayee last evening – his fourthvisit since the veteran BJP leader was admitted at AIIMS. Others on thevisitors’ list included Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, BJP lawmakerMeenakshi Lekhi and Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee had headed governments thrice — for 13 days in 1996,13 months in 1998 and for almost six years from 1999. His was the firstnon-Congress government to last for a full five-year term in office.
