NAB deputy director faces tough questions in IHC over Sharif family appeal petition

ISLAMABAD – The NAB Deputy Prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar faced tough questionsin Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday during the hearing of the petitionsfiled by Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r)Safdar against their sentences in Avenfield references.

IHC’s two-member bench – comprising of Justice Athar Minallah and JusticeMiangul Hassan Aurangzeb – heard the petitions filed by former primeminister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r)Safdar against their sentences in Avenfield references.

During the hearing, Justice Minallah asked both the Sharifs’ lawyers,Khawaja Haris and NAB deputy prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar, if they hadconfidence in the present bench. They both said that they reposed trust inthe bench after which it began hearing of the case.

The NAB lawyer requested the judges to take up the convicts’ appeal seekingsuspension of their sentences after summer vacation of courts. The benchrejected his request, saying that their appeals will be fixed for hearingas per the routine.

On July 6, the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was awarded 10 years inprison, while his daughter Maryam and her spouse Capt Safdar were handedseven years’ and one year’s prison terms, respectively.
