ISLAMABAD – PTI MNA and renowned TV Anchor Dr Amir Liaquat comes underfire from the Supreme Court of Pakistan yet again.

He has been fined Rs 20,000 in a contempt of court case on Wednesday. Thefine will go towards the Diamer Bhasa dam fund.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar askedthe accused’s lawyer why his client should not be arrested fordisrespecting the legal body and not appearing in court.

Faisal Qureshi, the lawyer for the petitioners, argued that Amir Liaqat hadlevelled false statements against politicians and media personalities onhisshow on Bol TV.

CJP said that Amir Liaqat had previously assured the court that he wouldnot make any defamatory remarks on his TV programmes. He added that thecourt will investigate transcripts of his shows to verify if he had defiedthe court by making any abusive statements.

The SC adjourned the case hearing till Friday.
