Do you know how much the failed RTS system costed Pakistan?

ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will have to payRs250 million despite the alleged collapase of the newly-developedstate-of-the-art Result Transmission System (RTS).

The electoral commission would still have to pay Rs170 million to theNational Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), while presidingofficers will get Rs80 million.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday sent a letter to thecabinet division*linkit to conduct an inquiry into failure of its Result Transmission System(RTS) during conduct of general elections on July 25.

According to a letter sent to the Cabinet Division, the ECP directed theCabinet Division to constitute an inquiry committee comprising experts fromNational Telecommunication and Information Technology Security Board(NTITSB) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and finalize theinquiry report within one month.

According to the terms of reference (TORs) of inquiry, the committee willthoroughly analyse RTS, fix responsibility of its failure and also makerecommendations for future course of action.

Earlier, an official of ECP while finalising the reasons of failure of RTS(Results Transmission System) on July 25 (Election-2018) said that, it isan international practice that any system been introduce is practicedbefore launching but due to shortage of time RTS could not be tested.

He also said that it was the demand of parliamentarians to launch andpractice RTS in election 2018. Now ECP was analysing the reasons behindfailure of RTS and share the findings with the media.

The official added: “For the first time an online system to share resultsfrom 85,000 polling stations around the country to the central headquartersin Election Commission of Pakistan was introduced.”
