ISLAMABAD – The inspector general of Punjab and the regional police officer(RPO) did not ask ex-Pakpattan DPO Rizwan Gondal to seek an apology fromKhawan Maneka, former husband of Pakistan’s first lady Bushra Imran, saidan inquiry report.
The controversy regarding Maneka-DPO faceoff surfaced after the Punjabgovernment transferred Gondal. Reports rife in the media claimed that thepolice officer was removed from the seat for an alleged altercation withManeka. However, Gondal said that he was mistreated.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar also took a suo motunotice regarding the alleged politically motivated transfer of Gondal.During a hearing in the case, Justice Nisar continued that if the transferwas made on the request of the Chief Minister Usman Buzdar or the personsitting next to him then this was not his right.
In the inquiry report prepared by Punjab Additional IG Abu Bakr Khuda Bakshover the Gondal’s transfer, it has been stated that neither Punjab IGPKaleem Imam nor the RPO ordered the transfer.
It added that dispute between Gondal and Khawar was created over twoincidents occurred on different dates – August 5 and August 23. In the11-page report, 17 police officers were probed, including the ex-DPO, wereinvestigated.
