ISLAMABAD – The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar found alcoholbottles and drugs from the room of incarcerated Pakistan Peoples Partyleader Sharjeel Memon when he made a surprise visit to the hospital onSaturday.
The CJP made a surprise visit to the PPP leader’s hospital room at ZiauddinHospital and found bottles of liquor, local media reported. Memon iscurrently under medical treatment at the hospital where his room has beendeclared a sub-jail.
During his meeting with the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) AnwarMansoor at the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry, the CJP said that whenMemon was asked about the liquor, he denied that they were his.
The CJP also visited Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Hussain Lawaiis admitted. Justice Nisar also made a visit to National Institute ofCardiovascular Diseases where Omni Group Chairperson Anwar Majeed isadmitted. Both are accused in a money laundering case through fake acounts.
Memon was sent to jail over Rs 5.7 billion corruption charges. NationalAccountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a reference against Memon for hismisconduct in payments regarding advertising campaigns.
It was revealed that Rs 5.7 billion was paid to seven advertisingcompanies, which was a violation of Sindh Public Procurement Rules 2010.Memon was accused of issuing contract to advertising agencies at excessiverates without confirming the market rates. This had resulted in the loss ofmore than Rs 5 billion.
