LHC gives a blow to the Sharif family

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) gives a blow to the Sharif family.

LHC has dismissed the petition for suspension of the sentences of formerprime minister Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt(retd) Safdar in Avenfield corruption case on Friday.

A three-member bench headed by LHC’s Justice Shahid Waheed comprisingJustice Aatir Mehmood and Justice Shahid Jameel Khan heard the appealsseeking the suspension of conviction of the Sharif family members.

The petitioner stated the 1999 National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) wasintroduced by the former president Pervez Musharraf but lapsed after the18th Amendment.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, daughter and son-in-law sentenced inaccordance with a dead law, the petitioner added.

The petitioner requested the court to declare the Sharif family’s sentencesnull and void as they were convicted through a dead law.

The LHC bench dismissed petitions challenging Sharif family’s sentences andalso appeals seeking that NAB Ordinance 1999 be declared as null and void.
