With Pakistan taking the lead role on the issue, Dutch blasphemous caricatures contest cancelled

ISLAMABAD – With government of Pakistan taking the lead role, Dutchanti-Islam lawmaker Geert Wilders has cancelled a planned blasphemouscaricatures contest.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan’sambassador to Holland also confirmed cancellation of the controversialcontest.

The planned contest had earlier sparked protest demonstrations in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, FM Qureshi and other Pakistani politiciansvoiced their concerns over the controversial contest.

Khan on Thursday said he would move the Organisation of Islamic Countries(OIC) in an effort to raise the issue of blasphemous caricatures in theUnited Nations.

Speaking in a video statement published on social media, the prime ministersaid the West doesn’t understand that our perspective towards religion isquite different from theirs.
