Supreme Court to hear Sharif family case on Monday

ISLAMABAD – A three-member bench of the Supreme court headed by ChiefJustice Saqib Nisar will conduct a hearing today (Monday) of letter writtenby National Accountability Court II judge, seeking extension in deadline tofinish the trial in remaining two references against Sharif family.

The accountability court judge, hearing corruption references against theSharif family, has written a letter to the Supreme Court seeking extensionin deadline to finish the trials in remaining two references.

The apex court had initially given 6-month deadline to the accountabilitycourt for concluding the trials, however, the Accountability Court-1 judgetook extension in the deadline four times.

Sources said the Accountability Court-II judge, Arshad Mailk, has writtento the apex court seeking an extension.

The judge, in his letter, has requested the Supreme Court for extension toconclude Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references, the sources added.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice SaqibNisar, will conduct a hearing today (Monday) with regard to extension indeadline of references.

On July 6, after four extensions in the original six-month deadline toconclude all three cases, the court had announced its verdict in theAvenfield reference.

Accountability court Judge Mohammad Bashir had announced the verdicthanding the ousted prime minister 10 years as jail time and seven years tohis daughter Maryam Nawaz.
