Khawaja Saad Rafique s claim about Pakistan Railways turn out to be a pack of lies

LAHORE – Contrary to claims of former Railways Minister Khawaja SaadRafique of making Pakistan Railways a profitable organisation it has beenrevealed that Pakistan Railways is under heavy loss to the amount of Rs 37billion per annum.

Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has revealed that thePakistan Railway is facing worth Rs37 billion deficit.

The railway minister said while chairing a high level meeting at theRailways Headquarters in Lahore today. He was briefed about the currentsituation of savings and deficit of the railway in the meeting.

Sheikh Rashid said that the government attached top priority to theenhancement of the railways’ revenue and reduction of its deficit. He alsosaid that railways was facing a lot of problems which will be solved and wewould invite the private sector to do business with railway.

The minister mentioned that it was the need of the hour to establish thecommercial plazas on the railways’ land to enhance the income of thedepartment. “We will establish the Sanitation Task Force to clean theareas, adjacent to the railways stations,” he said.

The railway minister said that he would work hard to improve theperformance of railway and reduce its expenses and funds will be spentsolely for the development of the department.
