Pakistan Foreign Office rejects twisted facts reported by US State Department over telephone talk between PM Imran Khan and Mike Pompeo

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Foreign Office has rejected the US State departmentversion of the telephone talk between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo andPrime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday.

Pakistan Foreign Office has said that there was no talk of terrorism orterrorist safe heavens in Pakistan in the discussion between PM Imran Khanand Mike Pompeo.

US State department was reported as saying that Mike Pompeo has asked PMImran Khan to take action against the terrorist safe heavens on Pakistansoil.

However no such talk had happened between the two.

Pompeo congratulated the prime minister on assuming office and expressedhis willingness to work with the new government towards a productivebilateral relationship, a statement by the US government said.

Terrorism and Afghanistan issue also came under discussion.

Secretary Pompeo raised the importance of “Pakistan taking decisive actionagainst all terrorists and its vital role in promoting the Afghan peaceprocess”.linklink

Pompeo is expected to visit Pakistan early next month to meet with thenewly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan, Geo News reported, citinginternational media outlets.

Pompeo, an official of the US President Donald Trump’s administration, willreportedly arrive in Islamabad on September 5 for a brief stay while enroute to India.

Pompeo and PM Khan are likely to discuss bilateral relations and matters ofmutual interest during their meeting before the former leaves for New Delhion September 6.

It is also expected that Pompeo, who would become the first foreigndiplomat to meet Pakistan’s new PM, may talk the Afghan peace process aswell.
