RAWALPINDI – Ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawazon Wednesday celebrated Eid ul Azha in Adiala Jail.
According to details, Nawaz Sharif offered Eid prayers at High Securityblock while there is no schedule regarding meeting of officials with theconvict.
Earlier, Islamabad High Court (IHC) had suspended verdict in casepertaining to the Sharif family’s appeals challenging their conviction inthe Avenfield reference by the accountability court.
A division bench of the IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah and JusticeMiangul Hassan Aurangzeb resumed hearing in the appeals of Sharif familytoday seeking suspension of their conviction in Avenfield reference.
It is to be mentioned here that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, MaryamNawaz and Captain Safdar were convicted and sentenced to prison in absentiafor ten years, seven years and one year respectively, in Avenfield verdictthat is likely to further disrupt an already chaotic campaign for nationalelections this month.
Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar, who were candidates for theforthcoming general elections were also disqualified from contestingelections for 10 years each.
The sentence and a fine of 8 million pounds, or $10.6 million, came almosta year after Supreme Court removed Sharif from office and less than fivemonths after the court barred him from holding office for life.
Nawaz Sharif was convicted under section 9(a)(5) of the NAB ordinance.
