LAHORE – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi tendered hisresignation on Monday.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Ehsan Mani asPCB chairman.
In a Twitter message, Imran Khan said: “Ehsan brings vast and valuableexperience to the job. He represented the PCB in the ICC, was the ICCtreasurer for three years and then headed the ICC for another three years.”
Earlier, Sethi sent his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In a Twitter statement which also carried a copy of his resignation toPrime Minister Imran Khan, he said: “I was waiting for the new primeminister to take oath before submitting my resignation as PCB chairman,which I have done today. I wish the PCB all the best and hope our cricketteam goes from strength to strength. Eid Mubarak. Pakistan Zindabad,” Sethisaid.
“I was nominated to the Board of Governors of the Pakistan Cricket Board(as per the Pakistan Cricket Board Constitution of 2014 by the ICC andSupreme Court of Pakistan) by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from2014-17 and then again from 2017-2020 by ex-Prime Minister Shahid KhaqanAbbasi,” Sethi wrote.
“I was unanimously elected the PCB chairman in August 2017 by all 10members of the BoG for a three-year term ending in 2020. I believe I haveserved the cause of cricket diligently,” he said.
“You have said on many occasions that you have a vision for Pakistancricket. Therefore, it is only proper that you should assume charge andresponsibility for assembling a management team for PCB that enjoys yourfull confidence and trust. In order to facilitate your objectives in theinterest of Pakistan cricket , I hereby submit my resignation as Chairmanof PCB and Member of its BOG,” he concluded.
