Supreme Court imposes fine on NAB

ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court (SC) imposed on Monday a fine of Rs20,000 onNational Accountability Bureau (NAB) for filing ‘baseless’ petition in thetop court and ordered .

The apex court took up NAB’s petition, which challenged the Islamabad HighCourt’s (IHC) decision to proceed with the Sharif family’s conviction inthe Avenfield verdict.

Terming NAB’s petition in SC to be ‘baseless’, Chief Justice of Pakistan(CJP) Saqib Nisar rejected it. The CJP also imposed a fine of 20,000 andasked the body to submit the amount in the dams fund, local media reported.

NAB challenged the high court’s decision in the SC, after the IHC acceptedpleas regarding the suspension of jail sentences of former Prime MinisterNawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar inthe Avenfield case, .
