US responds to presidential election in Pakistan

*WASHINGTON – The United States (US) has felicitated Dr Arif Alvi onbecoming the new president of Pakistan. *

US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauret in a statement saidWashington looks forward to working with Islamabad to advance “our sharedinterests, such as regional peace, stability, and prosperity.”

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar administered oath to newlyelected President Arif Alvi at a ceremony held at President House on Sunday.

Mr Alvi, who was clad in traditional black sherwani, promised allegiance toPakistan and to carry out his duties in the interest of the sovereignty,integrity, solidarity, well-being and prosperity of the country.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa,Senate chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiserwere among the guests who attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Subsequently, a smartly dressed contingent of armed forces present a guardof honour to the new president at the Presidency.
