ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has congratulated the people of Maldives on thepeaceful conclusion of its Presidential election.
The foreign office spokesman Dr. Mohammad Faisal in a tweet said “Pakistanfully supports the democratic process in Maldives and will work with thenew government to further enhance the partnership between the twocountries.”
Maldives President Abdulla Yameen on Monday conceded defeat in electionsand said he would arrange a smooth transition for president-elect IbrahimMohamed Solih.

“I have accepted the results from yesterday,” Yameen said in a televisedaddress to the nation after Sunday’s election gave the joint oppositioncandidate 58.3 percent of the vote.
