ISLAMABAD – China has said that Xinjiang is an autonomous region of thecountry and enjoys social stability, sound economic development andharmonious coexistence among ethnic groups.

A Chinese embassy official while referring to a recent meeting held betweenAmbassador Yao Jing and Dr. Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Minister for ReligiousAffairs and Interfaith Harmony of Pakistan, on Wednesday, said both thedignitaries had a good discussion on China-Pakistan relations including theCPEC cooperation and some specific projects in Pakistan.

“The Chinese ambassador appreciated the efforts by the Pakistani Governmentto promote religious harmony, on which both the two sides had fullconsensus,” said the official.

Some local and international media, however, gave baseless and distortedreports about the meeting and China totally rejects them, he said, addingthat Chinese Muslims enjoys social stability, sound economic developmentand harmonious coexistence among ethnic groups.
