High flood warning issued for Punjab rivers: PMD

ISLAMABAD – Pakidtan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued high floodwarning in the rivers especially in Punjab.

PMD has informed Lahore, Sialkot, Hafizabad and Narowal are expected toreceive heavy to very heavy over next two days.

The PMD informed that a strong weather system from Central India will passLahore during Saturday evening (today) to Monday afternoon which can causeheavy to very heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of River Ravi includingLahore, Sialkot, Hafizabad and Narowal.

Issuing a flood warning PMD said, “Under the influence if theaforementioned meteorological conditions, widespread thunderstorm withscattered and isolated heavy falls are expected to over the uppercatchments of Rivers Indus, Jehlum along with Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sargodhaand Sahiwal Divisions.”

Moreover, “very high flood is expected from Sunday in River Chenab atMarala and downstream, River Jhelum at Mangla, River Ravi and Sutlej alongwith linked nullahs of Ravi and Chenab,” the PMD added.
