BARCELONA – Spain says it intends to officially recognize the state ofPalestine.
The announcement has been made by Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell inMadrid.
He said his country is now awaiting a unanimous EU resolution in thisregard.
According to Borrell, his government plans to set a deadline by which theEU should reach consensus on the issue.

He said if the deadline passes without consensus being reached, Madrid willunilaterally acknowledge the state of Palestine.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Foreign Ministry had commended Spanish announcementterming it a very encouraging move.
