NEW YORK – A body of the United Nations has sacked an Indian national afterhe was found guilty of sexual misconduct in an investigation.
Ravi Karkar, who was employed in the UN Entity for Gender Equality andWomen Empowerment, was fired after the Office of Audit and Investigation ofUNDP had completed its probe into the allegations of sexual harassment.
Ravi Karkara, who had served as senior advisor on strategic partnershipsand advocacy to the assistant secretary-general and deputy executivedirector at UN Women, had been accused of using his position to sexuallyharass the men at work.
Around Eight men had filed a complaint against the Indian national, seekingprobe against him.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, executive director of UN Women PhumzileMlambo-Ngcuka also confirmed, on the basis of the investigation, thatsexual misconduct occurred.
“As a result, I have dismissed the staff member; this is the strongestdisciplinary measure available within the Staff Regulations and Rules ofthe United Nations. Consequently, the staff member is prohibited fromemployment within the UN system.”
