FBR to undergo massive reforms program: Report

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Asad Umarhas constituted a committee headed by State Minister for Revenue HammadAzhar to come up with a “massive and comprehensive” reform program beforethe close of the financial year.

The Committee which includes the “best minds of the country” will watchover the reforms agenda aiming at short and medium as well as long-termstrategies for optimal revenue generation and resource mobilisation.

The decision was taken at a meeting with Finance Minister for Finance,Revenue and Economic Affairs Asad Umar in the chair here at the FBR House,said a statement issued here on Thursday.

State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar, Sakib Sherani, Member Sub Group ofEconomic Advisory Committee on Fiscal Policy; Dr. Naveed Hamid, Member SubGroup of Economic Advisory Committee on Fiscal Policy; Dr. Asad Zaman,Member Sub Group of Economic Advisory Committee on Fiscal Policy; AshfaqTola, Member of Tax Reforms Commission; Abdul Qadir Memon, President ofPakistan Tax Bar Association; and Shabar Zaidi were also present.

It was decided that the committee would meet once every fortnight to devisestrategies for revenue collection and come up with short and medium-termmeasures and goals to be implemented before the close of the financial year.The meeting also decided to translate all tax statutes in Urdu on apriority basis.
