Pakistan supports Russian proposal at top UN conference

ISLAMABAD – At the United Nations, Pakistan while reaffirming itscommitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention has called for effectivelyaddressing the threat of chemical and biological weapons by non-Stateactors.

The call was made by Pakistan representative Jehanzeb Khan whileparticipating in a debate on weapons of mass destruction at the GeneralAssembly’s Disarmament Committee in New York.

He said Pakistan condemns the use of chemical weapons by anyone, anywhereand those responsible for such deplorable acts must be identified and heldaccountable.

Jehanzeb Khan said Pakistan has also supported the Russian proposal for theelaboration of an international convention for the suppression of acts ofchemical and biological terrorism in the Conference on Disarmament.
