ISLAMABAD – Chairman National Accountability Bureau Justice (retd) JavedIqbal has said that NAB is striving for corruption-free Pakistan and megacorruption cases will be taken to their logical conclusion on prioritybasis.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad he said that the cases involving smalleramounts would be sent to the relevant anti-corruption institutions forconcluding the investigation and inquiries on merit within ten months. Hesaid that due to the use of latest technology and training programmes toenhance capability of its officers, conviction rate in NAB is 77 percent.He said that due to the efforts of NAB against corruption Pakistan’sranking has improved by nine points according to the internationalcompetition indicators.
The meeting was apprised that NAB recovered 2,580 million rupees fromcorrupt elements and deposited in the national exchequer during the tenureof its existing chairman, which is a record achievement.
The meeting was briefed that NAB apprehended 503 people during last 12months, received 44,315 complaints out of which 1,713 complaints werescrutinized, inquiries were held against 877 people and investigations werelaunched against 227 people, whereas 440 corruption references were filedin various accountability courts.
