ISLAMABAD – Supreme Court on Tuesday banned admission in private medicalcolleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa till the cases regarding them were decidedby the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed heard a plea seeking a banon a medical college in Abbottabad.
During the course of proceedings, Barrister Saif, counsel for the PakistanMedical and Dental Council (PMDC), informed the court that the PMDC hadimposed a ban on the private colleges due to their incompatibility, but thePHC had suspended that decision. He requested the apex court to suspend thePHC verdict.
Justice Azmat remarked that the degrees of such medical colleges had noworth than that of a simple paper.
In a lighter tone, he remarked that the authorities had failed to controlthe population through policy decisions, but they adopted another way forthe purpose by producing quacks, who were continuously killing people.
Subsequently, the bench suspended the PHC decision of giving interim reliefto the private medical colleges and adjourned the case sine die.
