AC seeks further extension from SC to conclude trial against Sharif family

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court wrote a letter to the Supreme Court to seek further extension in the deadline to conclude the remaining two references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik in his letter to the SC registrar wrote that the trial in two references pertaining to Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment was near to conclusion.

The letter stated that the trial proceeding couldn’t be completed in a given time period by the apex court thus deadline in this regard should be extended more.

It further read that the accused Nawaz Sharif was recording his statement in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference while cross-examining was being conducted on the last witness’s statement in the Flagship Investment reference.

It is worth mentioning here that the Supreme Court on October 12, had granted the final extension to the accountability court to conclude trail against Nawaz Sharif till November 17.

So far, the apex court had given six extensions to the trial court to conclude references against Sharif family. Initially, the SC had given six month for the trial in three references.
