IMF bailout package: Some serious concerns raised

*ISLAMABAD – International Monetary Fund (IMF) held policy level dialogueswith Pakistan over bailout package.*

*IMF appeared discontended with the current state of tax collection inPakistan. *

A team representing the body, led by Harald Finger, stressed that thecountry’s ongoing financial crunch requires effective measures and a needto increase tax collection.

The Pakistani delegation included secretary finance, chairman federal boardof revenue (FBR) and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Tariq Bajwaamong other officials.

As per IMF’s suggestions, raising tax collection will help recoverPakistan’s sinking economy and its current account deficit.

According to sources, the Fund also extended its support towards theFederal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) move to send notices to tax defaulters.

The policy-level discussion, between IMF and Pakistan, is a second phase oftalks which began a day earlier in order to procure a bailout package tocushion the economy of the latter.
