Task Force created to amend NAB laws in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Information Minister Fawad Hussain Chaudhry has said it is thefirst time in the country’s history that fair and transparentaccountability is being carried out across the board.

Responding to the points of former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi onthe arrest of PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique, he said the opposition isnot doing any favor to the system by trying to make the accountabilityprocess controversial. He said NAB is an independent institution and it isworking sans any influence. He said the courts and the NAB should beallowed to perform duties as per their mandate.

Fawad Chaudhry said the people want accountability of the corrupt elementsand the PTI government will move forward as per their expectations. He alsomade it clear the government will not interfere in the accountabilityprocess initiated by National Accountability Bureau and other institutionsagainst the corrupt elements. He said those who plundered the nationalexchequer over the last ten years will have to be held accountable. Heregretted the opposition is now finding flaws in the NAB laws when they arebeing brought to task under the law.

About bringing improvement in the NAB laws, the Information Minister said atask force headed by the law Minister has been constituted and it has alsoheld sittings with the opposition on the matter.

The Information Minister pointed out that the current set up in NABincluding its chairman was appointed by the previous government. He saidthe cases against PML-N leaders were also registered when Nawaz Sharif andShahid Khaqan Abbasi were the chief executives of the country.
